The 2009 Ironman World Championship, Kona Hawaii, Sharon Schmidt-Mongrain #1610
On October 10, 2009, Sharon Schmidt-Mongrain raced in the Ford Ironman World Championship. Though she had raced in 5 Half-Ironman distance races, this would be her first at the 140.6 mile distance. The 6 months leading up to the race included many early mornings and late nights training while working a full time job. Her training paid off… as she finished the swim in 1:05, the bike in 5:42, and the run in 3:34… earning a 9th place finish in her age group, 15th place overall female, and 50th overall female including pros. Just 4 weeks later, she raced in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship… check back to see that video!
